The Big 50
That can be traumatic. It is a vague memory for in a week and a day it will be 20 years in my rear view mirror. So this isn’t about me. It is about WSOP coverage. Frankly, it wasn’t a real part of my last month and whatever.
I found myself bypassing those link dump and titles that got cliché laden all too quickly. Lot of good writing missed – granted. But, they lacked the cache I might have given them in less jaded times. I’m not bragging here; anything but. I’m saying it wore out for me and maybe in undeserved fashion.
I did read Otis – I guess I should make that Brad as he works the legit byline. AlCantHang was also a must and did the best recaps on the commercial side. I’ll admit to always scanning Michael Craig’s stuff. He is a cross between Hollywood Reporter and me journalism. He tries to surprise and amaze but misses repeatedly or maybe is just so predictable. When they put schtick in the dictionary, they used his picture.
That was about it for regular reads the commercial side. I read a few hand histories at PokerNews. That was HORSE and bits of Stud. At this point I’ve pretty much proven I’m an avoidable, discounted demographic.
But, on the Blog side, and I mean the true mainstream blogs. You know. The ones people do because it is part of their being instead of a way to avoid a real day job. And God bless their commercial opportunity to garner that. But, I like writing that comes with a passion that is unavoidable.
The big 50 comes today. It is Short Stack Shamus’ last paid day at the WSOP. That means that it will bring out the 50th post in his everyday series of blogs that got written after busting his hump for a PokerNew paycheck. That means killer hours ending dead on one’s feet. Yet he’s been a constant in my RSS feed. It was a consistent source for color and perspective that really became unique. It also reveals the dedication that makes one a premier blogger.
So, be sure to head over to Hard Boiled Poker for the Big Five-Oh. And, if you missed 1-49, you’ve got a great evening’s read to look forward to. It will have color and perspective and consistent dedication in every paragraph.
DAMN FINE JOB, Shamus!!!
The category here is pimpage and I'd be remiss without throwing some my own way. I managed to win another small stud8 tournament over on the site that I'll leave nameless to avoid Waffle's wrath. He right and so am I. Time to move past that.
