I've used this lead-in in the past. But noting that is only an indication that senility has been held off for another day or so. This time, instead of just referencing it, I'll give the condensed version.
Two guys in their prison cell:
1: 46 [laughs up and down the cell block]
?: 86 [Belly laughter erupts]
New Guy: What's this all about?
1: We've heard every joke so we just gave them numbers.
NewGuy: Can I try?
NewGuy: 27 [Dead Silence]
1: Some guys just can't tell a joke
Poker blogs sure conform to that idea. We all beat to death the reoccurring themes. Nowhere is that more evident than here. But he also seems like a nice guy and writes at least as well as I do. Faint praise but what the hey.
How many times have you seen that blog? Can't we just give it a number? :)
Friend Jordan ran goot! How goot? About three standard deviations goot. For a brief moment in time, we crush it. That spawns the Greek god blogs. Then we get the blog admitting to being Achilles – heel and all.
Talking about losers and koolaid is self-massage. Rather than ignoring reality, it combines our luck and our skill. Talking about profit is silly at the levels we play. In the casinos, grinders try for two big bets an hour. Online, we play three times as many hands. If you play where the rake is 5% and aren't passing the maximum early in the hand, it makes long term profits move from skill to run goot. Without bankroll management and realistic goals, we prove exactly what we are – recreational players. And, it is a hell of a lot of fun when we don't take it too seriously. If we did all of it right, most of the fun would be gone.
I'm not sure how many times I've written this blog. I've said it in several ways at various times. So, I'll drink some of the Kool-aid and do what is appropriate.
This blog is:
You may now laugh at or with me as you so choose. And, could we make it a single malt instead of Kool-aid?
