Interesting, but Stupid

Remember Laugh In.  The title was one of Artie Johnson’s weekly uttering.  Beating a dead horse to death was a Laugh In standby.  And, I went to school with one of the actors, Jo Ann Worley.  Possibly my only claim to fame.   The following is stolen from a RSS feed I follow.   Bit of a shock.  It was interesting and seems rather stupid.

“Americans who were recipients of means-tested government benefits in 2011 outnumbered year-round full-time workers, according to data released this month by the Census Bureau. …There were 108,592,000 people in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2011 who were recipients of one or more means-tested government benefit programs, the Census Bureau said in data released this week. Meanwhile, according to the Census Bureau, there were 101,716,000 people who worked full-time year round in 2011. That included both private-sector and government workers.” CNSNews has the story.

You’d love to pay more taxes, right?  (Be still my heart…Mother may I?)

The Senate majority leader, Harry Reid, claims that “everybody” wants to pay more to the federal government in taxes. Via RealClearPolitics:

the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. The rich know that. The rich are willing to pay more. They’re not the ones out here saying, ‘please don’t tax me.’ The only people who feel there shouldn’t be more coming in to the federal government from rich people are the Republicans in the Congress. Everybody else, including rich people, are willing to pay more. They want to pay more.

It’s the sort of thing that makes you ask what planet these guys are on.
