Newton was a Poker Player

You remember good old Sir Ike.  He the apple guy.  His law of motion goes:

Objects in motion tend to remain in motion.  Objects at rest tend to remain at rest. Read more…

Dumb, I Guess

December 1st, 20114 comments

OK, we are talking about poker and we are talking about me.  I do tend to be assertive on a variety of subjects.   It hard to avoid when a blog runs only a page or two.  Poker blogging adds to that  — sometimes exponentially.  Many attempts toward fame and fortune can be flow charted.  Flow charts to programmers are decision trees.  They break down a complex decision into a series of smaller problems.  That takes on a new complexity that often becomes a greater reason than the goal. Mojo’s blog points us to an interesting phenomenon.  It discusses an article in Ante Up by Doc Bloomfield — a poker playing shrink.  I had little trouble identifying with the premise.   I won’t say it is wrong but I sure think it is incomplete. Read more…

Rainy Days and Mondays

October 19th, 20111 comment

Well, it is a rainy day today.  But, it isn’t Monday.  Monday is work day and that no longer has an impact around here.  I thought I’d try a poker post.  Hard to do when you haven’t played for weeks.

Talkin’ to myself and feelin’ old
Sometimes I’d like to quit
Nothing ever seems to fit
Hangin’ around
Nothing to do but frown
Rainy Days and Mondays always get me down. Read more…

Seven times Eight is

September 6th, 20118 comments

It was third grade and we learned the multiplication table.  Mr. Mueller was the teacher.  He had a heart attack and went out in the hall and died.  A bit later, shook people came into the class room and the world was any longer bright and sunny. His daughter was in our class.  Bad day.  Third grade wasn’t a great year for a lot of reasons.  (This is a poker post believe it or not.) Read more…

I played poker

August 12th, 20112 comments

It had been a good three weeks since I played.  I didn’t miss that noon HORSE game on Carbon Poker.  It is a freeroll as I couldn’t deposit there and the word on the street is getting money back out isn’t happening a whole lot on the remaining sites. Read more…

After that Friday

Well, I am playing — sort of — on Carbon as one of the few available sites.  My credit and debit cards failed there so I've played a few freerolls — very few.  Yesterday made for a week and change since my last game there.   They have a HORSE freeroll and I've played a lot of HORSE.  That should make for success, right? Adjective: Making a show of being morally superior to other people.

Been there; done that; many times in fact; missed the tee-shirt. It is a pretty common failing — or a bit of rationalizing on my part.  It is one of the words that showed up in the FT response to Ivey’s shot across the bow.  Jessie May had some fun with it in an article.  While the term is defined as moral superiority, we seem to use it as a fallback from an intellectual position as well. After all, the dispute is a mostly legal one at this point and that seems to help support the contention that its use is a bit too broad in many instances.  The law isn’t couched in a moral framework even if we often assign it such and think it wise as Solomon. Time Flew but I won’t be

May 31st, 2011No comments

Well, it was a bit of a shock the last couple of days to figure out that the WSOP started today.  It may be the weather has been part of it.  We didn’t really have a spring to make you think the ol’ tempus was fugiting.  Then, we had the encounter with Black Friday. I’ve played one freeroll since UB shut down — a HORSE thingy.  Be still my heart. Read more…

Gotcha Ha Ha

There is a bit of Nelson Muntz in all of us.  Poker is a social acceptable method of being Nelson without loss of limb.  It lets us visit the other side of “The Human Experience” without doing hard time.  Read more…
